Metamorphosis Animation

The  METAMORPHOSIS Animation project was all about transformation physically through digital, stop and computer animation. Our group used stop and computer animation to create a bullying film. Our story was about a boy named Mike being bullied by kids at school and all he wants is to be free from all the insults. So in a library Mike draws himself being bullied and when he leaves his drawing comes alive.  So after Mike leaves the bullies in the book laugh at him so we decided to turn Mike into a bird because he wants to be free. But since we did the whole stop motion part in a library we made the bird fly into a book store representing the library we filmed in. Thats when he transforms back to a human again. After that Mike comes back and rips out the bulling page that he drew and decides to take action.

Words of Wisdom

Our project was on Gino Quintana a soccer coach who encourages intelligence. We made our project by organizing and planing individual parts to our team and completing them before the due date. we did however do a lot of the project together like the interview and the editing. I think the only thing that was shot by only one of us was the B-roll. I think this is important because now the world needs more complex thinkers and educated people to solve world problems.

Three Shot Sequences

The shot types are usually Wide, medium, and close like the video at the top. The basics of a sequence shot in normally wide to set a scene, medium to get some information on whats going on and close to show the details of the shot. Three shot sequences are important because they are used for interest in a video to keep the viewer engaged. It also helps the viewer know a little bit more and understand what is going on in the shot.

Polar Panoramas

Steps to a Polar Panorama

These are my two best polar panoramas. I created them by using Photoshop and Adobe Bridge like how i did the spheres. The steps are simple just follow the ones below. For more detailed steps click the link above.
1. Go to a place that's to your liking and take ten or more vertical shots of it with a minimum of 15% overlap on each image.
2. Then prepare the image for the Polar filter by first using Adobe Bridge to adjust your image to your liking.
3. Then to prepare the image rotate the image 180 degrees so that it’s upside down when you look at it.
4. Then to edit it use the polar filter to distort the image or images you took.
5. Then rotate the image to your liking.
6. Once you are done with that clean up the image and you are set.

Magazine Cover

This is my finished magazine cover I did in the fall of 2013 from my GT class at Kapaa Middle School. I used a digital camera and photoshop to take the pictures and edit them to create this final product.

Final Photomontages

These are my two photomontages I created with Adobe Bridge and Photoshop. They are inspired by David Hockney which he called them "Joiners". I created them by taking multiple pictures at different angles and height. Then putting them together and creating one image out of the many images that were taken.

Spherical Panoramas

These are my two sphereical panorama's I made in photoshop. The way I created this was by taking multiple pictures from left to right then. I used adobe bridge to customize the photos for photoshop. Then in photoshop to create the panorama you must join the photos using photoshop's photo merge to create the panorama. After creating the panorama you can adjust and resize the panorama to 5000 to 5000 so that it's square. Once you are done use the polar filter

Composition Techniques

The main four composition techniques are rule of thirds, framing, unusual angles and last leading lines. Rule of thirds is when the picture is cut in nine sections and you fit your subject in the frame. Framing is how you frame or position your subject in your shot. Unusual angles are usually used to show interest in an image with angles that aren't really used. Leading lines are lines that are commonly used in that world that will lead you to a subject. Composition techniques are a great way to improve your video.

Practice Profile Story

The purpose of the practice story was to get a feel of how the real project was going to be like. Like how to operate the DSLR camera and getting to know how to frame our subject. We also learned how to cooperate with each other and use our time wisely between class sessions to get b-roll and voice-overs done. We chose Tyler because he likes to do something that was different from what we like to do and we wanted to know more about it.

Profile Project Progress

Our project is called "Elder Words of Wisdom". For our project we chose to interview Gino Quintana who likes to encourage young people to study and get a good education. This project was basically on elder people giving us tips in life for what might come in the future. Our team picked him because he was a good role model for kids because Gino had to put up with having to get good grades and playing sports even though he was often gone from school. When Gino graduated he ended his high school year with a G.P.A of 4.3 with mostly honer classes. We mostly filmed at at his house for the interview and the B-roll was filmed at the soccer field.

When filming it is very important to get the correct B-Roll to fill and make the film more interesting in a visual way. Our B-Roll was shot at the soccer field so that our subject could preform the tasks we needed him to do. The Voice-Overs are also very important they help the viewer understand whats going on in the story or video. Our team filmed Voice-Overs in a quiet place with minimal sound for the best quality.  These were the technical parts about making our video.

Our team does have it's flaws one of them being the time and place we shoot. This is probably the only major problem that we encountered on our project. However the timing and location issue could be fixed by planning ahead so it's not much of a problem to correct.

Personal Reflection

This project was a good practice for me because I experienced the stress right before the dead line and figured out a way to make do with it. This practice was a good stress test  probably for all of us in the class. we all got to experience what it would be like if we didn't have good communication between one another. Some groups were pulling hairs and some groups were very good and smooth. Our group was fortunate to finish on time even if we had some miss communication in the beginning. However in the end we managed to pull through and finish on time.

This practice was very beneficial to me because I experienced a lot like how good communication plays a big part when working in groups. I also learned that your group may have slackers that don't do anything. However I've learned how to pull the weight of those slackers and pull through on my part at the same time. I also learned that sometimes things don't always go as planed.Like the weather and other people in your group not showing up and participating.

There were hard parts here and there thrown into the mix too. Like making the B roll footage only 15 seconds and getting the perfect place for the interview. The hardest part about doing the interview was finding a place with low sound and the right light for the camera. Overall this practice was very beneficial to me because now I'm ready for the real deal.
